چکیده
Internal solitary waves (ISWs) near the Dongsha Atoll in northern South China Sea (SCS) can be divided into incident, reflected, and refracted waves. Compared with incident ISWs, reflected ISWs are less likely to appear, but their impact on ecological environment marine activity should not underestimated. In this work, field experiments were performed moderate-resolution imaging spectroradiometer (MODIS) images collected analyze ISWs. Satellite observations showed that they excited by collision between often form of a wave packet composed 2 5 solitons. Generation of Internal Tides and Internal Solitary Waves on the Continental Shelf
There are two principal objectives. The first is to continue the development of amplitude evolution equations of the Korteweg-de Vries type with a main focus on topographic effects, and on the associated effects of refraction and friction. The second is to undertake a major re-examination of the generation process, using a combination of theoretical and numerical analyses, and emphasising the d...

There are two principal objectives. The first is to develop and refine amplitude evolution equations of the Korteweg-de Vries type to the point where they can be used as validated models for the propagation of internal solitary waves. The second is to undertake a major re-examination of the generation process, using a combination of theoretical and numerical analyses, and emphasising the distin...
متن کاملCoupled Acoustic Mode Propagation Through Continental-shelf Internal Solitary Waves - Oceanic Engineering, IEEE Journal of
Three techniques are used to investigate mode coupling as acoustic energy passes through continental-shelf internal solitary waves (ISW’s). Results from all techniques agree. The waves considered here are single downward undulations of a thermocline layer separating upper and lower well-mixed layers. Two techniques are numerical: parabolic equation (PE) solution and a sudden approximation joini...
متن کاملInternal solitary waves of elevation advancing on a shoaling shelf
[1] A sequence of three internal solitary waves of elevation were observed propagating shoreward along a near-bottom density interface over Oregon’s continental shelf. These waves are highly turbulent and coincide with enhanced optical backscatter, consistent with increased suspended sediments in the bottom boundary layer. Nonlinear solitary wave solutions are employed to estimate wave speeds a...
متن کاملNonlinear internal waves over New Jersey’s continental shelf
[1] Ship and mooring data collected off the coast of New Jersey are used to describe the nonlinear internal wave (NLIW) field and the background oceanographic conditions that formed the waveguide on the shelf. The subinertial, inertial, and tidal circulation are described in detail, and the background fluid state is characterized using the coefficients of the extendedKorteweg–deVries equation. ...
